Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Daines Close in Manor Park.
A three-roomed flat on the third floor of the four-storey building was destroyed by fire. Ten residents left the building before the arrival of the Brigade. One man suffering smoke inhalation was treated on-scene by London Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital.
The Brigade was called at 0024 and the fire was under control by 0136. Crews from Ilford, Stratford and East Ham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
