Firefighters have issued a reminder of the importance of smoke alarms following a fire at a semi-detached house on Heston Road in Heston.

Part of the roof and a small part of a bathroom were damaged by the fire. Two people were led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. There were no reports of any injuries.

Smoke alarms were present at the property but did not operate. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home.

“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.”

One of the Brigade's 32m ladders was been deployed to the scene as part of the Brigade's response.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a failure of an extractor fan in the bathroom.

The Brigade was first called about the incident at 1447, and the incident was under control by 1610. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Heston, Southall, Feltham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
