Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at an end of terraced house on Newick Road in Hackney.

The ground and first floors of the three-storey house were destroyed by the fire. Three people left the building before the Brigade's arrival and four were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

Station Commander Alan Bendell, who attended the scene said: “Crews worked hard to bring the fire under control and stop the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties."

The Brigade's 999 Control Officers took 31 calls to the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 1242 and the fire was under control by 1528. Firefighters from Shoreditch, Stoke Newington, Bethnal Green and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade's Fire Investigation Team and the Metropolitan Police Service.
