Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with flats above on Stoke Newington Road in Hackney.
A launderette occupying the ground floor of the three-storey building was partially damaged by fire. There are no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade received the first of two calls reporting the fire at 2225 and the fire was under control by 2348. Crews from Stoke Newington, Islington, Homerton and Holloway Fire Station attended the scene.
The fire is believed to be accidental and caused by the self-heating of textiles.
