Firefighters have issued a reminder about the importance of working smoke alarms after a woman escaped a fire at a flat on Curzon Crescent in Park Royal.
Part of a three-roomed flat on the ground floor was damaged by fire. One woman was rescued by crews via a ground floor window. She was checked over by London Ambulance Service crews who were also in attendance.
Leading Firefighter Andy Hastings was at the scene, he said: "The occupant of the flat was lucky not to be asleep when the fire started, as there were no working smoke alarms in the property.
“This fire highlights just how important it is to have working smoke alarms in your home.
“Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.”
The Brigade's 999 Control Centre received its first call alerting them to the fire at 2307. The fire was under control at 2334. Fire crews from Park Royal, Willesden, Wembley and North Kensington fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
