Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a range of shops and dwellings on Coldharbour Lane in Peckham.

Most of the third floor and part of the second floor were damaged by the fire. Three people left the building before the Brigade arrived. A fourth person was led to safety from a ground floor flat by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. There are no reports of any injuries.

Road closures are expected until this afternoon.

One of the Brigade’s 64-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as an observation tower to help fight the fire from above.

Control Officers took the first of 22 calls at 0843 and mobilised crews from Peckham, Old Kent Road, New Cross and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 1029.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
