Five fire engines around 35 firefighters responded to a fire in a flat on Arboretum Place in Barking.
Part of a five roomed flat on the sixth floor, in a block of eight floors, was damaged by the fire. Around 80 residents were evacuated from the building as crews responded. There are no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade's Control Room was called about the incident at 1812, with crews from Barking, Dagenham and surrounding fire stations mobilised in response. The incident was over for firefighters by 2040.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
