Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Foulden Road in Hackney.

A fifth-floor external gas cupboard was fully destroyed by fire, and external fascia on the fifth floor was partially damaged by fire. Around 30 people were led to safety from the property by firefighters and one man was assessed on-scene by London Ambulance Service.

One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders is being used at the scene as an observation tower, providing incident commanders with an aerial view of the incident and better situational awareness.

The Brigade's Control Room took the first call at 1327 and mobilised fire crews from Stoke Newington, Hornsey, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 1526.

The fire is believed to be accidental and caused by the ignition of vapours from expanding foam.
