Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters responded to a fire on Norsted Lane, Pratt's Bottom.

Two residential properties were involved in the fire. Just under half of the ground floor and part of the first floor in a detached house was damaged by fire. Over half of the roof and part of the first floor in a second detached property was also damaged by fire. A quad bike at one of the properties was also destroyed by the fire.

Due to the remote location of the fire, crews implemented a water relay system as part of firefighting operations. Four fire engines were deployed between the incident site and the nearest water hydrant, and then connected together by hose. This allowed crews to pump a constant supply of water to the scene of the fire.

Five people were assessed on scene by the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation. There are no reports of any further injuries.

The Brigade was first called about the incident at 2254, and crews had the fire under control by 0053. Firefighters from Orpington, Bromley, Biggin Hill and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental, caused by the fuel tank of a quad bike and leaking fuel onto a hot surface.
