Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended a fire on Cole Close in Thamesmead.
A row of mid-terraced house was affected. Two houses sustained damage to the ground and first floors as well as the fascia and soffits. A conservatory, part of the first floor and soffits of a further house was damaged. A fourth house also sustained damage to the fascia and soffits. Two sheds, a pergola and a row of fencing was also damaged in the fire.
One person was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews to be treated for smoke inhalation. A further person was assessed at the scene.
Firefighters removed two cylinders, which were cooled to an ambient temperature as a precaution, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.
The Brigade's Control Officers received around 10 calls about the fire.
The Brigade was called at 1337 and Control Officers mobilised crews from Plumstead, Erith and East Greenwich fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 1543.
The fire is being treated as accidental and is believed to have been caused by the spread of an initial fire involving the burning of rubbish. The spread was aided by the wind and recent dry conditions.
