Firefighters led seven people to safety from a fire at a restaurant with flats above on Park Parade in Harlesden.

The whole of the ground floor and part of the first floor of the building were damaged by fire. The external ducting in the extraction system from the ground to the second floor was destroyed. Crews wearing breathing apparatus led seven people, including a baby to safety. There were no reports of any injuries.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “There were no working smoke alarms in the property. Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start, except kitchens and bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate.

"Firefighters recommend that you have a look at our online Home Fire Safety Checker to make sure there are no hidden hazards in your home.

"The online tool will ask you a series of questions that will help us work out the level of risk in your home, or the home of someone you care for. It only takes a few minutes to get tailored advice to keep yourself and loved ones safe from fire."

The Brigade’s Control Officers took the first of nine calls to the fire at 0934 and mobilised six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Willesden, Park Royal, North Kensington, Hammersmith and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 1205.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical.
