Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop and dwellings on Ilford High Road.
Part of the first floor was damaged by the fire. Six people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene to help fight the fire from above.
Control Officers took the call at 0351 and mobilised crews from Ilford and Dagenham fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0440.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
