Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne, who led the Brigade’s New Year operational response, said: "I’d like to thank all of our firefighters, Control Officers and fire rescue service staff who have been supporting the New Year celebrations across London, working with our partners to keep everyone safe.

"The Brigade dealt with nearly 400 calls in the first two hours of 2025 alone in what was an extremely busy 24 hour period. Firefighters attended several fires across the capital overnight, including at a flat in Notting Hill, an outbuilding in Camden and a house in Forest Gate. There were also a number of smaller fires believed to have involved fireworks. Additionally, firefighters assisted emergency services at a road traffic collision near Primrose Hill.

"We also dispatched a fire boat from Lambeth River Fire Station and several appliances to the River Thames near Millbank where around 20 people were trapped by the tide at around midnight. Working alongside partners including the Coastguard and police, everyone was thankfully brought to safety unhurt.

"We worked closely with emergency services and resilience partners ahead of and during the New Year period. With 14 fire engines and specialist vehicles moved to strategic locations across London, 19 event officers and four fire safety officers on duty, and along with more than 200 fire safety visits carried out in advance of New Year’s Eve, London Fire Brigade was ready to respond swiftly and assist those who needed us.”

Earlier on New Year's Eve, around 20 fire engines and 125 firefighters were called to a fire at a warehouse on New Road in Rainham.

Assistant Commissioner Nick Davis, who attended the scene, said: "This was a complex and challenging fire involving several industrial units.

"I’d like to thank all firefighters and officers who attended to ensure the incident was brought to a safe conclusion, with no injuries reported. Firefighting operations continued throughout the night and we remain on scene today extinguishing hotspots.

"Meanwhile, our Control Officers ensured that appliances were available to respond to other emergency calls in the area and across London."
