Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a garden shed on Basildon Road in Abbey Wood.

One shed and ten metres of garden fencing were completely destroyed by fire. Half of a metal shed and a small part of a timber shed were also damaged by the blaze in neighbouring gardens.

Sub Officer Anna Snelson was at the scene, she said: "On arrival it was a very visible fire with flames coming from the shed. There were 27 calls made to our 999 Control centre to alert the Brigade about the fire."

The Brigade was called at 2330 and the incident was under control by 0040. Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith and Bexley fire stations were in attendance.

The cause of the fire is accidental.
