Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a sheltered accommodation block on Meadowbank Close in Fulham.
A fourth floor flat was destroyed by fire along with part of the roof of the building. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade's Control Officers received around 17 calls about the fire.
The Brigade was called at 1650 and crews from Fulham, Hammersmith, Wandsworth, Kensington, Battersea and North Kensington fire stations were mobilised to the scene. A 32-metre turntable ladder from Paddington Fire Station was also deployed to the scene. It was used as an observation tower, providing the Incident Commander with a greater situational awareness of the incident.
The fire was brought under control by 1751.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
