Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on Stepney Causeway in Wapping.
Part of a five room flat on the first floor of a seven storey block of flats was destroyed by fire. Three people left the flat before the Brigade arrived. They were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation. Two cats were found in the flat who had sadly died. One person and three children were rescued from a neighbouring flat by crews using a nine metre later, thankfully no injuries are reported.
The Brigade's 999 Control officers were first called at 0351 and deployed crews from Shadwell, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green and Millwall fire stations.
The cause of the fire is accidental and due to an electrical event in a plug for a chest freezer.
