This month, the Museum hosted its first public event since 2019! It was brilliant to welcome visitors after such a long time – 500 of you came over the weekend. Thank you if you came along, we hope you enjoyed the day.
There was plenty for visitors to get involved with, such as exploring the Massey Shaw Fire Boat. Visitors were astonished at how powerful the jet of water from its monitor was – working just as it would have when it was in service in the 1940s. Our younger visitors had great fun pumping water themselves using a Second World War stirrup pump.
Local fire crews from across Tower Hamlets attended and gave an insight into the job of a firefighter today. They showed how fire engines work and let visitors get hands on with equipment such as hoses and thermal imaging cameras!
Visitors also had the opportunity to try on and compare uniforms from Victorian times and the present day. They could also view displays and objects from the Island History Trust and LFB Museum.
The day would not have been possible with the help of out volunteers and colleagues from the Brigade's Community Safety, Cadets and Education teams. Finally, a big thank you to the Canal & River Trust and Dockland Scout Project for hosting us!
