The Fire Brigades Union’s (FBU) fifth period of strike action started at 1800 and finished at 2200 today.

Over the four hour period the Brigade’s 999 control officers received 96 calls. Of these, contingency fire crews attended and successfully dealt with 14 incidents. These included:

• Three domestic fires including a fire on The Ridge in Orpington where two women have been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

• Two building fires

• One road traffic collision

• One lorry fire

• Seven false alarms

As with the previous four FBU strikes the Brigade’s priority is to return to normal business as quickly as possible. A further strike is planned for Saturday, 14 December between 6pm and 10pm.
