The six hour strike staged by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) this evening (New Year’s Eve Tuesday, 31 December) has now ended.

This strike action, which started at 1830 and finished at 0030, is the eighth period of industrial action staged by the FBU since 25 September.

Throughout this period the Brigade experienced a generally quiet evening, although the Emergency Fire Contingency Crews did attend several fires in domestic premises.

As with the previous five FBU strikes the Brigade’s priority is to return to normal business as quickly as possible.

The strike relates to a dispute between the FBU and government over the Government’s reforms to the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme.

A further period of strike action is planned for Friday, 3 January between  6.30am and  8.30am.
