Last month, the Brigade, submitted a detailed response to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) with regards Dame Judith Hackitt’s full independent review of building regulations and fire safety. Our submission outlined the numerous ways that building regulations and fire safety system is currently broken.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Dame Judith’s full report is a positive first step towards putting public safety first and for creating meaningful reform.

“We agree with Dame Judith that reforms need to apply to all building and we welcome the principle of a new regulatory framework.

“While Dame Judith’s review covers a number of key areas, we would encourage the Government to look again at the important role of sprinklers and other automatic suppression systems could have in making buildings safer.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Dame Judith and the Government.”
