We're the first fire and rescue service to return to a rank-based structure following the implementation of Role to Rank.
This follows an agreement by the Brigade and the London Region Fire Brigades Union to change from a role based structure to a rank based structure. Changing to a rank based structure will be more efficient and improve fire cover.
Firefighters remain firefighters, crew managers become leading firefighters, watch manager As become sub officers and watch manager Bs become station officers. Station managers will become station commanders and group managers will become group commanders.
Role to Rank is a move forwards to a better structure that will ensure more officer availability, better stability of officers on watches and increased appliance availability at key times of each shift.
