Deputy Commissioner, Richard Mills, said: “In October 2019 London Fire Brigade accepted in full recommendations arising from Phase 1 of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and committed to making improvements across the organisation as quickly as possible.

“One year on, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) inspected our progress on the Grenfell Tower recommendations.

Working hard to implement recommendations  of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry

“The efforts of our staff, who have been working hard to implement the recommendations of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry have been recognised in their review. The HMICFRS is encouraged by the work we have already undertaken to improve training and introduce crucial new equipment, and can see a sustained focus to understand the lessons from the Grenfell Tower fire.

“We know there is more we can do and must do to keep Londoners safe and we will continue to work hard, to not only complete all of the recommendations, but to continue our learning so that we can adapt and reduce the number and impact of fires.

Our focus is on how we can transform

“The last 12 months have been incredibly challenging for London’s communities. The pandemic has impacted our progress on several areas of work and caused the implementation of some activities to be delayed. Even with these obstacles we remain committed to completing the recommendations. Our focus is on how we can transform and learn from every incident we attend and reduce the risks for Londoners.

“We are already on a course of change and we know more today about the risks and dangers of the built environment. This course of change will continue as we implement new equipment, training, policies and as our culture evolves.

We are accountable

“We are accountable to every Londoner and we appreciate the trust they invest in us. We are and will continue to be responsible for our actions each day as we work alongside the communities we serve.”
