The Mayor of London has today declared a major incident due to the rapid spread of coronavirus across London which has left the NHS at risk of being overwhelmed.

London Fire Commissioner, Andy Roe, has reassured Londoners that the Brigade continues to be ready to respond to emergencies across the capital.

Commissioner Roe said: “We will continue to do all that we can to support London’s collective effort against Covid-19. Firefighters have once again volunteered to step up to support a joint emergency response to Covid-19 by volunteering to assist the London Ambulance Service and drive ambulances. The arrangement will help keep ambulances on the road and get vital care to those who most need it.

“The Brigade continues to provide a full emergency fire and rescue service response for Londoners and we have contingency plans in place which are constantly being monitored. We're confident that we can maintain a good level of service to London despite the challenges Covid-19 may present.”
