To mark World Kindness Day [13/11/21] we're celebrating the kind act of a member of the public who noticed a stranger who seemed in need of help and rescued them.

Back in the summer, Elias Maz was passing by a house and saw a man in great distress who was trying to take his own life. Without thinking about his own safety, Elias immediately raised the alarm and went to help the man by climbing up onto a slippery porch roof. Firefighters from Wembley fire station arrived on scene shortly after and pitched their ladders to help.

On 1st December Elias will attend Wembley Fire Station where he'll receive a commendation from the Brigade’s Borough Commander Ian Thompson, for his heroic actions at an incident the Brigade attended.

Station Officer Simon Horn from Wembley Fire Station attended the incident. He said: “Elias trusted his instincts and not only dialled 999 straight away, he also immediately went to help. Having the confidence to act in that situation could have saved a life.”

Elias Maz, a fitness instructor who lives in Wembley said: “I was walking from my car to the house where my girlfriend lives and we’d just been grocery shopping. When I spotted the man in trouble, I just wanted to help. I told my girlfriend to call the emergency services while I called neighbours for help. To be honest, I was not expecting to receive anything for doing this. I am truly grateful for being honoured like this.”
