Commissioner Andy Roe has urged Londoners not to miss out on the opportunity to have their say on London Fire Brigade’s draft plans to change and improve to meet the needs of communities.

With just one week to go give your views on Your London Fire Brigade – a comprehensive plan which sets out how the Brigade will keep the capital safe long into the future – the Brigade’s most senior officer is stressing how important it is that people across the capital take part.

Your London Fire Brigade is our plan for how we will keep the capital safe from 2023 to 2029. This is our first London plan since the tragic Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. While much has already changed in the organisation, we know that we owe it to the bereaved and survivors, all Londoners and our staff to do much more.

Your London Fire Brigade explains how we will better engage, protect, learn from, and represent London’s communities over the coming years.

It includes draft proposals for:

  • A new way for communities to get non-emergency advice and reassurance.
  • Online prevention and protection services that allow people to get advice and access services.
  • Improving collaboration with our partners
  • Delivering environmentally sustainable projects

The consultation survey is live until Monday, July 25 on the TalkLondon website. People are asked for their views on our priorities and key issues such as building safety, how we allocate our resources and our targets for how quickly we arrive at incidents.

Commissioner Andy Roe said:

“There are more than 8.8million people living in London and millions more who come here nearly every day to work. We want to ensure we are serving them as best we can by protecting them and giving them advice that they need to keep themselves as safe as possible.

“That’s why it’s so important that people have their say on these plans – this is your chance to let us know what you think.”

The plan builds on changes that the Brigade has made in recent years. New 32 metre and 64 metre turntable ladders have been rolled out for use across London to manage incidents in high-rise buildings. Fire escape hoods have been introduced to help people being rescued in smoke-filled environments. To prevent fires and improve safety, a new online Home Fire Safety Checker has helped thousands of people make their homes safer.
