This summer we'll be opening our red doors to the public for a number of open day events across London.

Fire stations will be hosting open days throughout the summer months for the local communities. The aim of these events is to provide residents and visitors an opportunity to meet their local firefighters and hear valuable life-saving safety advice.

The open days are completely free to attend and there’s no need to book. The dates and times can be found on our list of open days, and will be promoted on our social media channels. Everyone is invited to go along to meet the crews, watch rescue demonstrations, learn about fire safety, and see some of our cutting-edge vehicles and equipment up close. There will be lots of activities for children – and those big kids that have always wanted to sit in a fire engine!

As part of our new plan ‘Your London Fire Brigade’ we're committed to making fire stations more of a community resource where firefighters can engage with, learn from and represent the communities we serve.

Starting this weekend on 27th May ahead of half-term week, Wimbledon fire station will hold its open day 12 noon – 5pm with a vintage appliance on display, aerial appliance, road traffic collision demos, line rescue demos, outreach work and fire dog Smokey making an appearance. Other open days will be held at New Malden, West Hampstead, Feltham, and Plaistow fire stations in the coming weeks, with more to be announced soon.

Assistant Commissioner for fire stations, Spencer Sutcliff, said: "Throughout the summer we’re inviting communities across London to come and visit their local fire stations. Our open days are a fantastic opportunity for you to meet firefighters and get personalised information and advice about fire safety as well as share ideas on how we can provide a service to meet the needs of the unique local communities.

"They’re lots of fun with hands on experiences for everyone- children can sit in a fire engine, try on the uniform, take part in fun activities and learn about firefighting.”

Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience, Fiona Twycross, said: “It’s fantastic that so many fire stations are open to the public this summer and I’d encourage all Londoners to visit their local fire station to get some valuable and potentially life-saving safety advice.

“It’s so important that the Brigade works to strengthen local links and builds trust with all our communities. That's why I welcome these events which are a brilliant day out for families, bring the wider community together and help us continue to build a safer London for everyone.”
