You can check to see if you are at risk of flooding in your area.
If your business is in an area that is likely to flood, make sure your insurance covers you for damage caused by flooding.
What to do when floods are forecast
If flooding is forecast in your area there are steps you can take to be prepared:
- Save the Floodline number to your phone. You will need to call them to report flooding in your area, or for advice if your business is flooded. Call Floodline on 0345 988 1188
- What stock do you need to relocate to protect it from flooding
- Create a list of important contact details such as your utility companies and insurance providers.
- Make sure your employees know what they need to do in the event of an emergency
- Make sure you and your employees know how to turn of your gas, water and electrical supplies in an emergency there are people in your property, make sure they know how to evacuate in an emergency
Is there anything I can do to stop my property from flooding?
There are steps you can take to try and limit the damage to your property.
- Use s flood barriers to divert the water away from your business and to prevent it entering. You can buy prevention devices online or from a hardware store.
- Consider what items you may want to move to a higher level to protect them from potential flooding.
- Flood water can come in through toilets, so be prepared to sandbag your bathroom doors or block your toilet.
